Welcome back to I'm Trippin', where we get to explore The Netherlands, specifically Amsterdam. Let me tell you about this place. I am sure you know Marijuana is legal there. You may be asking why I went to visit Amsterdam knowing good and well I could not partake in the extracurricular activities due to my profession. Well, Amsterdam is a beautiful city, and if I ever had the opportunity to live out of the country again, I would choose Amsterdam in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, racism is alive and well worldwide, and I can only speak for my experience when I say that Amsterdam was one of the very few places I have been where I felt completely welcomed and accepted. I truly fell in love with the city, and hope to visit again in my lifetime.

Let's Trip to Amsterdam!

Welkom in Amsterdam!

This blog will contain nudity, and references to marijuana. If you are easily offended, I would suggest you click away now. You have been warned.

Activiteiten (Activities):

Squatting in the Netherlands was huge in the 1980s due to a lack of housing. Because of this, young people would move into abandoned buildings. Squatting in Holland turned into a political movement, and when squatting was legalized in Holland in the 1990s, many squats were legalized or transformed into an official "Breeding Space" for artists. The Tabakspanden were mostly inhabited or "squatted" from 1983 onwards with everyone being evicted in 2015. The buildings were relinquished by the squatters on Saturday March 22 2015, but on Tuesday March 24, a different group of squatters reoccupied the buildings as a protest against gentrification. The police started a major eviction operation on the Wednesday March 25, which was screened live by local media. That is a little background on why the buildings look the way they do.

Amsterdam Street Art Scene: Amsterdam is known for its beautiful street art. I went on a ganja tour, not to smoke but to explore the city, and I am so glad that I did. Check out the beautiful street art that I was able to capture just walking around.

Body Worlds: One of the most unique exhibits I have ever been to. What makes this so strange, or unique, I am still unsure is that I was able to see dead bodies which have been preserved through a process called “plastination.” These people voluntarily donated their bodies to be used for scientific reasons. They chose to have their bodies plastinated after their death with the knowledge that they would be put on display. There were muscles, the joints, the digestive system or respiratory system, or whatever other part they decided to show on display. This exhibit is definitely interesting and could be considered educational as well. Depending on the exhibit, individual body parts are shown. One case could show just hearts: a healthy heart, an enlarged heart, the blood vessels within the heart, and so on. See my pictures below. Be aware, it is very different to see an exhibit this way. These are literally dead people.

Sex Museum: According to them they are the world's first and oldest sex museum, also named the "Venustempel" in Amsterdam. The museum is full of themes of sensual love with a large collection of erotic pictures, paintings, objects, recordings, photographs and even attractions. The exhibits have been collected by the owners and can be viewed in their 17th century property on the Damrak Amsterdam. As I mentioned above, these pictures contain nudity, so if you are offended please do not look at the pictures below.

Dam Square: Is the very center of Amsterdam, that has many activities and attractions.Check out some of the cute things I captured while there.

Dampkring Coffeeshop: Went for the Ganja Tour, and apparently they filmed a movie there which is why it is such a tourist attraction and packed from wall to wall. Had all kinds of things to try which I was not able, but I liked the atmosphere and the vibe. Check out the little video I took while inside.

I cant remember the name of this coffeeshop, but it was so unique because it was underground and very quaint and quirky. Check it out.

Check out some of the other random shots I took while in Amsterdam.

Lastly, check out my favorite picture I took in Amsterdam. Doesn't get any more beautiful than this does it?

Always remember...When all’s said and done, all roads lead to the same end. So it’s not so much which road you take, as how you take it. My time has come to close out this installment of I'm Trippin'.

Until next time my Nautical Tripper Family. Stay Woke, Stay Humble, and Stay Trippin'.
